Facebook wall posts are private? Damn I'm really doing it wrong. I'm not getting laid AND all that stuff I say, for the disgust and loathing of all, isn't being seen by anyone outside my house.

No, the parents are right. The kids should not be suspended from school for things they did at home.
The children should be subject to a lawsuit for libel. It seems apparent that the children libelled the teacher, and therefore the parents should pay very punitive damages.
The kids, however, should remain in school. Because, apparently, they need to learn some good sense.

You can't sue a minor for libel. The best you could do is bring suit against the parents and you would pretty much have to prove that they were aware of the actions and condoned it. Don't forget that the case law behind Bong Hits for Jesus may have been very narrow but it would certainly drive local courts opinions about school actions against students for behavior outside the classroom.
I am assuming that no action was brought against the teachers based on the students allegations. The article never mentions any.
If the court cases rule for the parents or the school just rescinds the expulsion I guess then it's free season for teachers to say whatever they want about their students as long as they do it from their own houses. Me, I would use my Facebook profile to document all of the nose picking, wedgie digging and ball scratching I saw in class and name names. You just got to let the little fuckers know that if they want to play the game, they have to be ready to play for real.

Good Sense should come from home. Obviously a shared parental and child fail.

BH4J shouldn't apply in this case since this is a libel not a simple speaking of an opinion. The parents obviously condone this action.
I think it would be worth it for the teacher to sue. Just bringing the suit should get the kids their much-deserved beatings. After that, he can drop it.
