That's pretty fuckin' intense. My guess is they figure theirs is the more 'humane' way of disposing of those superfluous beasties, rather than to let them roam the streets or give them up to 'questionable homes.' Still, I don't figure it's much different than what other rescue agencies are forced to do, each year.
A friend and I had a joke about taking random or otherwise untroubled animals to the vet for euthanasia, "because it's legal for them to do it, not us." Although the species and circumstances changed, the deliberately frivolous reasoning remained the same.
"Fluffy barks too much."
"I'm sorry. I don't understand what you'd like me to do about that."
"I want you to kill Fluffy."
"But sir/ma'am, there's nothing wrong with your dog!"
"I don't care. I'm sick of it. If I kill Fluffy, they haul me off, but if you do it, everything's peachy. So get with the death-makin', sport."

I have always hated PETA. Not only are they one of the most well known animal rights groups but they always seem to fuck things up which make it seem like all people who believe in animal rights are fuck ups as well. They spend time and money on ridiculous causes more than half the time with little outcome. When I was younger I was a "member" and received information from them all the time - until they got the idea that I wasn't going to donate money to them.
Shelters that kill the animals in the end usually do it because the animals are sick in some way, there is a law there somewhere, or do to overcrowding.
No unless PETA has a shelter in Detroit and 100% of the animals taken to it were pitbull puppies - I am confused?

What can you expect from an organization that has a useless companion animal, Pam Anderson, as one of their "spokespeople". PETA sucks and should be abolished. Kim is right, they do spend their money on stupid causes. I often see PETA info tables on Market street, when I walk by I tell the people they are fucking animal murderers. They are usually smelly trustafarians that don't have a clue how the real world works.
All my cats (5) are rescues. Ones that I either trapped, or just found wandering, starved and sick. Most people aren't fit to raise children, let alone animals. I know exactly how Decadence feels when he makes remarks about "bi-peds".

Trustafarians is my new favorite word. Makes me think about Portland. Or my CA town actually. Bastards.
As far as animal rights go, if you are into that, Animal Liberation Front is my favorite bunch because most of the things they do are all for the right reasons - anonymously. Anyone who does something without caring what anyone else thinks is doing it for the right reasons.

Yeah, like murdering stoopid trustafarians.....
Hey Kim, to go slightly off-topic, now's your chance to start a catering biz. When your former employers hire you for a function, you can shit in their food.

Dang, you beat me to it. I was only going to say, "...like sociopaths," but yours is more interesting. Surely, there's an organization devoted to controlling their reproduction, prevent them from attacking others, keeping them sober, etc.

Um, wouldn't that be PETA?
