I call bullshit on about 8 different points in her story. Nobody "falls asleep" while getting 56 tattoos without serious chemical assistance.

But she's an adult. If everyone who got a tattoo and later regretted it sued the parlor, there wouldn't be any more tattooers.

This was, almost verbatim, the excuse given on "The View" this morning. (sue me if I have crap on in the background...it's mildly less noxious than Regis and Kelly)

Anyone who would turn their one and only skin over to this freak pretty much deserves what they get.

To clarify, I do not actually watch this. The television is merely ON, and I will occasionally catch snippets of conversation from this rabid hen party. Whereas I am specifically averse to the sound of Regis Philbin's voice and mumblings (or Kelly Ripa's ineffable chirpiness), I must go with the LEAST offensive options. I only have the most basic of cable channels, whatever is the cheapest thing that comes with internet. Other 'options' are things like "Cash Cab" and "The Price Is Right." As I am stuck here nearly all day, most days, I have had to suspend anything like 'taste' or 'preference' in my choice of background noise. Don't hold it against me. It's marginally better than sitting here in complete silence, or with the drone of lawnmowers and the pounding of the heifer upstairs.

Baby, you tell yourself whatever you need to to get throught the day.

I ADORE silence.

And when I get sick of the ambient sounds of what I call my "Screaming Kids CD", I blast some killer LOUD music.

There's no excuse for watching The View. Or soap operas.

Really, Pale. There is NPR. Even at its most precious and annoying moments, it beats the hell out of Regis or the View.

Baseball games with the sound turned down are another matter.

Sports are always cool, too.

I'm partial to basketball (Go Lakers!).

See, Pale, there are many alternatives to THE VIEW.

I often have a classical music station on for background noise if I'm not wearing my computer headphones.

There are no sports on (and I wouldn't watch them if they were), I sold my stereo, and screaming kids are not on the premises. It is a matter of convenience, no more, no less. Continue to make any inferences you wish about my choice of background noise. I really don't care.

Sports (with the exception of the fights) are the male equivalent of The View.  It's just as brain-killing.

Basketball?  Football?  Baseball?

BOR-RING!

I don't know what time zone you live in, but Colin Cowherd on ESPNU and ESPN Radio is pretty decent...

Unless you are a Boston/New England, or Lakers Fan, ESPN sucks. They have to be the worst "homers" in all of sports reporting. They don't even try to hide it. If they aren't outwardly rooting for their home team, they are eagerly jumping on whatever bandwagon is currently flying down the road.

If all you require is background noise, you could always try some online alternative non-NPR radio.

God knows you're right; I'm a hockey fan, and I'm rather pissed at the treatment The Worldwide Leader (TWL) has given the NHL. I'm also pissed at the way TWL beats an NFL story to death (Favre, T.O., etc.); they should start a new channel called ESPNFavre...

I do have a love/hate relationship with Colin Cowherd; he says some things that are painful to hear, but are the frank truth.  (Sort of like Neal Boortz.)
