I can understand a fee for premium cards such as airline perks, etc.  But if they think people will stick around for a plain jane card with fees, they are retarded.

Sounds like time to short sell some stock......

CC companies hate it when you pay your balance in full every month. They still make billions on the transaction fees every time the card is used, but grouse that they have to send you a statement when they don't make any money for "lending" you the money until the end of the month. I underpay my bill by $10 one month a year, then pay it the next month. That usually keeps me off the database purges and costs me about $0.05 a year.

Fuck'em - cash and carry.   Debit cards have eliminated the need for credit cards; a decent line of credit at the local bank and a couple of grand in savings and I don't need their lame as tricks.

I pay my card off every month so I never pay any interest on it.  I have an annual fee of sixty dollars, but I'm not going to bitch about that because I run enough across the card in work related spending to get enough airline miles to go to Europe twice a year.  Well worth the sixty bucks in my mind.

The amount of money that adds up in fees is ridiculous. Here is an example from when I worked in CC fraud and dealt with accounts that flagged for chargebacks (on the merchant side) which is coming in from the card issuing bank:

chargeback for, lets say a $40 transaction, comes in
merchant is debited the $40 bucks plus the $20 dollar chargeback fee
that they don't get back even if they win the dispute

a processor, which can be a bank or a company tied to a bank, processes on average 500 to 600 chargebacks a day. So 500 x 20 = 10,000

Ten thousand fucking dollars a day! just in fees!

Debit cards are the way to go.

I imagine the credit card companies hate people like me.

I know I hate our merchant account. Fucking vultures.

Who processes your shit? Yeah, I have listened to people yell scream curse and cry about how we took their money that they were planning on using for payroll. Its a fucked up and risky business, and of course the sales agents don't explain anything to you when you are signing up.

Credit cards are the way to go if you get benefits and actually pay them off monthly.  I'm thousands of dollars up in benefits on my credit card company and I have no one to thank but people who allow that to happen by paying out the ass in interest fees.  I haven't used over $100.00 in cash in the last two years and I have a lot of free travel to show for it.

Fasttransact.

I try to conduct as much business as possible via cash or check, but sometimes all the poor people who break down here and need their vehicle transported have is plastic.

Most of the time if I know the person isn't stranded, I make them get me cash.

I like cash.

If you ever feel the need, its easy to shop around for better rates. Call up a place and tell them your current rates and they will go on and on about how they can give you lower rates. Thats even if you need to bother. All processors are the same either way as they have to follow visa and mastercard rules and regs

Credit card interest is like the lottery, a tax on people with poor math skills.  Personally I like getting 1% plus back on most of my expenses.  The only card i use regularly automagically takes the full balance out of my bank account on the due date every month.  That's been true for six years, before that i had to actually type in the amount, and when I wanted it payed, every month.  Back in the dark ages I had to actually mail checks and got back less than 1%, way less.  I deal in cash with the outlaws.  If you're related to the boss you get cash, all others get plastic.  I refuse to feel bad about people doing it wrong when the system is so easy to play.

Ditto.  People who don't reap the benefits from credit card awards or pay out the ass in interest do nothing but help out people who know how to use their credit.  The world is full of stupid people, take advantage...

To me, credit seems a trap.

Take fuel, for instance.

I have an account with Comdata, where I can send drivers money (like Western Union), get gas, or whatever is offered in a truckstop. It costs a lot to use that credit, and it's cheaper to use cash. Sure, I have to enter reciepts into a spreadsheet, but in the long run, with the amount of fuel we use in a month, it's worth the hassle.

Also, the "benefits" that come with using the card are the equivalent of free coffee or some shit. So not worth it. My drivers have rechargeable debit cards I can put funds on for like $3.00, not the $15.00 it costs with that retarded card.

Dirck, you live a Spartan single dude life in the wild yonder. If you lived in Vegas like me, you'd probably be more wary of the perils of easy money.

I'm not into gambling.

In computer science, you study and create algorithms that demonstrate the statistical distribution of combinations of predefined variables(like suits of cards or coin tosses or slot machine combinations) that result in a full analysis of what a LOSING proposition it is to assume that you're ever going to beat the house consistently.

"The house" in this case being the extenders of credit.

What merchants (usually gas stations and smaller biz) try to do to cover their processing fees:

you cannot be charged a fee (surcharge) for using your credit card.
you can be charged a fee for using your debit card.

you can use your credit card for any transaction amount, a store
cannot make you buy, say $10 of items, in order to use your card.
