For those that recall

My son was pulled out of practice yesterday, blood pressure 144/84.  Obviously this is not a good thing for a fit 14 yr old.

Saw the Doctor, going to see the Cardiologist tomorrow; fuck my world.

Hopefully it's managable, he had worked his way up to 1st string nose tackle and 1st string kicker; this genetics shit sucks.

Sorry for the downer post, I just needed to vent.

All the best Em.  I hope it turns out to be scared over nothing big.

I hope the report back from the doc is good and that there is a simple treatment path.  Good luck, Emm.

On the not-shitty side:  This was caught before it was tragic.  I wish you solace and kindest regards.

Thank goodness they caught it so young.  I hope it turns out okay.

For shitty movies I recommend this little number I just streamed off of Netflix:  Lone Wolf McQuade

Shitty acting, cliches  galore, Chuck Norris, David Carradine, and an Erik Estrada look-alike.

I'd recommend Green Acres re-runs. They're not shitty movies but they were brilliant in their own way.

Cripes. I can only imagine what you must be feeling right now but everyone is right: as painful as the circumstances are, they might very possibly have saved his life. You guys know what the danger is and he can begin learning to manage it while he's still young.

My best wishes to you both.

Considering that every year we hear about  a kid who drops dead on the field or the court, I would say your son's coach has his act together.  And a damn good thing too.  They never considered monitoring our vitals when I was playing sports.  Good luck to you and your son.

I'm hoping that by now you have found out that it isn't anything all that terrible, and everything's gonna be fine.

But either way, it's probably hard to think of it as a blessing in disguise...Consider that just this week, I've read two news articles about young athletes who suddenly died during practice--a high school football player and a swimmer.

Last year my niece's high school lost a football player in very similar circumstances, during practice...seventeen years old.

Your boy is alive, and young enough that he may even be able to completely overcome this problem, whatever it is, and grow very old--and hopefully bury you.

Don't forget to come back and tell us what is going on.

Em, it seems you've caught the problem in time.  Modern pharmacology does wonders for high blood pressure (as well as cholesterol, diabetes, clotting and whiskey dick).  30 years ago this may have been a serious problem, but I think it's pretty a standard treatment now.

I know as a father you're worried, but wait for a prognosis before you freak.  My best wishes.
